Insanity Week 2 done! (kinda…)

Today’s Krav Maga class was tough. Tough enough that by the 20 min mark, all of us were dripping wet and panting like dogs. So I decided to give Day 11 a pass, just so I can rest up. My knees and shoulders are sore, but I am noticing that my stamina has improved heaps, as this morning’s session proved. I’m struggling with my food intake - I’m not actually eating enough.

To aid with my recovery, I’m rolling out my muscles 3 to 4 times a day. For about a year now, I’ve been a big fan of Trigger Point Therapy’s Lower Back Kit.

TPTherapy

For the most part, I love the whole kit. I started rolling out a lot when I was training for my first 12KM race last year and I’m so glad I did. In fact, you can read how effective it was for me here (mine’s the first testimonial). But as I did a lot of Crossfit and Krav Maga, I started getting really tight shoulders. I needed something to deal with that pretty fast. So I read quite a fair bit about the Rumble Roller.

Rumble Roller

Since Tony Horton uses the Rumble Roller in the new P90X:2 vids, I think it was a safe bet to invest in it. So far, it’s great. I find it much easier to roll out my quads and my IT Band, and of course my back. My biggest problem has always been my calves, so I tend to switch between both the TP kit and the Rumble Roller to change things up.

So 7 weeks more of Insanity to go. Once Insanity is done, I’m taking a week off to recover, then I’m hitting the Asylum. I’m also thinking of flying to Sydney in September for the Annual Krag Maga Global Training Camp.

Yeah you could say I’m a roll…

There comes a time in your life when you have to let go of all the pointless drama and the people who create it and surround yourself with people who make you laugh so hard that you forget the bad and focus solely on the good . After all life is too short to be anything but happy.

What a week!

Let’s just say this week has been interesting (for lack of a more appropriate term). By interesting, I’m really saying that this week was FARKING AWESOME!

I started Insanity this week and I’m proud to say - I SURVIVED. And as if it wasn’t enough, I also attended both my Krav Maga classes. My shoulders are a little sore from all those push ups and punching, my calves are… well… pretty much destroyed. So I’m quite happy to have a good day off tomorrow. Plus I get to catch Muthmath in the evening!

In other news, I GOT A JOB! No more boring sandwiches for me (at least for a while)!

Insanity attempt #4

The first time I did the Insanity workout was 2 years ago. I only managed to do about 34 days out of the prescribed 60 before tendonitis forced me to stop. At 34 days, I had lost about 6% bodyfat, which was amazing. I then did my 2nd attempt later in the year, but then my left foot started giving me problems as I was running a lot. My 3rd attempt was a challenge with a friend. He stopped after a week because his hamstrings were shot (he was crazy enough to hit the gym AFTER workouts); I stopped because I was about to start my Crossfit Fundamentals course.

So after all that, I started Day #1 this afternoon. 60 days. This time round, I want to complete the whole 60 days.

Keep checking back to track my progress!

Forget about winning and losing; forget about pride and pain. Let your opponent graze your skin and you smash into his flesh; let him smash into your flesh and you fracture his bones; let him fracture your bones and you take his life. Do not be concerned with escaping safely—lay your life before him.

6 steps to defend yourself, IDF style.

1.) Instead of instinctively resisting the attacker’s pull, attack his eyes directly by shoving your fingers into the sockets to temporarily blind him.

2.) Fuck him up.

I'm 35 years old, originally from Singapore. I currently live in Perth, Western Australia. And yes, I'm single.

I classify myself as a semi-retired musician. Some of the bands that I have played with:

I love to eat, but I love to cook more. I am a Crossfit athlete, an avid minimalist runner, and a newly converted Krav Maga enthusiast.
